Too much confidence and not enough knowledge: professor advises Ukrainians to learn their history.

Yale historian emphasizes the importance of studying Ukraine's history
Historian and Yale professor Timothy Snyder emphasized the importance of studying Ukraine's history. He argues that the history of this country contains many unknown facts that may surprise even well-informed people.
Snyder noted that many are unaware that the territory of Ukraine has been inhabited for over a million years. People returned to Europe through Crimea after the last period of global warming 40,000 years ago.
The professor stressed that Ukraine has significant importance for world history, but these epochs and phenomena often remain in the shadows. He pointed out that the Scythians played an important role in Greek civilization, and the Vikings, by founding Kyiv, were part of a larger Viking civilization that shared commonalities with Eastern cultures.
The professor warns that many Ukrainians are unaware of many great global stories related to Ukraine. The true national history is a history in which Ukraine is part of larger narratives. By uncovering the national history of Ukraine, people can change global history.
Snyder also talked about how Ukraine can rid itself of its Soviet past. He notes that Ukraine and Russia have different ways of addressing this issue. A significant distinction lies in the attitude towards suffering. The war with Russia could become an important factor for Ukraine in helping to overcome the Soviet legacy in its political culture.
