The head of NAEK 'Energoatom' Petro Kotin met with representatives of Westinghouse Electric Company - Aziz Dag and Luca Oriani to discuss safety issues of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of Khmelnytskyi NPP. These units will be built using equipment from the Bulgarian NPP 'Belen'.
Westinghouse is already considering the H3, H4 project to implement modern safety systems, including long-term heat removal from the containment of the reactor department. This will ensure the safety level of VVER-1000 similar to that of Westinghouse's AP1000 reactors.
Rivne NPP is already using similar systems.
It was also agreed to continue cooperation on the adaptation of Westinghouse fuel for H3, H4 units, including an 18-month reload option.
A joint team of specialists from Energoatom and Westinghouse will work on these projects.
