Ukrainian defenders fight for Selydove, but the city threatens to be encircled
According to expert Julian Röpke, Ukrainian forces managed to stop the advance of Russian troops in the Selydove area, Donetsk region. However, there is a risk that Ukrainian defenders will have to leave the city due to the danger of capture. This information was published by BILD.
Selydove is located in the Donetsk region and is a suburb of Pokrovsk, previously inhabited by about 23,000 people. Many neighboring localities have already been captured by Russian troops, but the 15th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, called "Kara-Dag," successfully holds the defense under Selydove.
"The harsh reality in Selydove. "Kara-Dag" performs well protecting the city, but neighboring units are struggling. So the city will fall, despite its brave defenders. That's exactly what I felt when I visited the "Kara-Dag" location in this area four weeks ago," noted Röpke.
Currently, Russian forces continue the advance near Selydove, and the city has fallen under the threat of encirclement. According to Röpke, Ukrainian military will have to leave the city to avoid this. Russians have also approached Mykolaivka, Novohrodivka, and Hrodivka near Pokrovsk.
Earlier, analysts reported that Ukrainian defenders managed to hold Russian advances and achieve some successes. However, Russian troops continue to make progress in different areas.
It is also noteworthy that Russian troops are advancing on Pokrovsk with the aim of capturing a mine where a special type of coal - coking coal - is extracted. This was reported by journalists of the Reuters agency.
Ukrainian military also carried out over 7,000 strikes on Russian territory, as reported by journalists.
