Volyn TCC explained why basketball player Konev was not allowed to leave Ukraine to play for the national team.

The Volyn Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support commented on the detention of Ukrainian basketball player Volodymyr Konev, who was not allowed to leave the country for the EuroBasket-2025 qualifying matches.

“This morning, at 6:10 am at the “Yahodin-Dorogusk” checkpoint during the document verification, border guards discovered Ukrainian citizen Konev Volodymyr, who was wanted as a military registration offender. The citizen was traveling as a passenger on a bus. According to the data from the “Oberih” system, Konev failed to appear upon summons to the TCC and SSP within the Time specified in the summons sent on November 1, 2024.”

The border guards transferred the detainee to the police officers of the Volyn region, who took him to the Volyn TCC and SSP for further action.

We would like to note that letters signed by Ukrainian ministers addressed to the head of the State Border Guard Service are of a recommendation nature only and do not constitute grounds for unhindered crossing of the state border. Such a letter may serve as a basis for departure only if the citizen has updated their military registration data and is not a violator of military registration.

In response to the statement of the president of BC “Dnipro”, we emphasize that all citizens of Ukraine are equal before the law, regardless of their profession or status. Military registration is the duty of every conscript, and it must be performed in accordance with the law.

Konev's loss for the Ukrainian national team

Let us remind you that BC “Dnipro” basketball player Volodymyr Konev, who was heading to Latvia for the Ukrainian national team matches, was detained by border guards. He was taken to the Lutsk TCC.

President of “Dnipro” Valeriy Kondratiev reported that Konev will miss the decisive matches of the Ukrainian national team in the EuroBasket-2025 qualifiers. He also believes that Konev's importance for the basketball national team is comparable to that of Zinchenko or Dovbik for the football national team.
