Trump supported advisor Woltz after accidental information leak

US President Donald Trump supported his national security advisor Michael Woltz, who mistakenly added a journalist to an encrypted group chat where plans for a military operation in Yemen were discussed. Trump called Woltz 'a good man' and spoke about it during an interview for NBC News.

According to a report by The Atlantic, editor Jeffrey Goldberg accidentally added Woltz to the group chat, leading to an information leak. This chat was used to discuss plans for a military operation in Yemen, and this became known an hour before the operation began, when Defense Secretary Pete Hegset was discussing plans in that chat.

The White House confirmed the truthfulness of the conversation, although press secretary Carolina Levitt blamed Goldberg for sensationalist journalism. Trump shifted the responsibility to Woltz's subordinates.

The Senate will begin consideration of this case

The Senate Intelligence Committee will convene regarding this case, where the Director of National Intelligence, the CIA Director, and the FBI Chief are summoned to testify. Senator Mark Warner stated that this incident reflects the carelessness of the Trump administration regarding the nation's most classified information.

Republican Susan Collins also expressed serious concern about discussing classified information on an unapproved messaging platform. According to Goldberg, Vice President Jay D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were also present in this chat.
