Ukrainian Easter Egg Recognized as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity (photo).

The first international element from Ukraine 'Pysanka: Ukrainian Tradition and the Art of Egg Decoration' has been included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

This became known during the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee of UNESCO. The decision was made in the capital of Paraguay, the city of Asuncion. According to the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, this success is a testament to the strength of our unity.

Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochitsky noted that this inclusion proves that living heritage unites us, gives a sense of belonging, and embodies our identity. This is especially important in the context of the aggressor's invasion and its destruction of our culture and heritage.

The preparation for the nomination took place since 2017 after a meeting with the Ukrainian community of bearers in Estonia. The inclusion is supported by three elements - 'Ukrainian Pysanka: Tradition and Art', 'Hutsul Pysanka Tradition', and 'Ukrainian Pysanka, Tradition, and the Art of Decorating Easter Eggs'. Two of these elements are already included in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine, while the third one is in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Estonia.

Currently, the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity contains 611 elements. Among them are also elements from Ukraine, such as 'Petrykivka Decorative Painting as a Phenomenon of Ukrainian Ornamental Folk Art', 'Tradition of Kosiv Painted Pottery', and 'Ornek - Crimean Tatar Ornament and Knowledge About It'.
