Ukrainian chess player became the vice-champion of Europe in blitz.


Ukrainian chess player Anna Ushenina took second place in the European Chess Championship in blitz format. This news is reported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
The tournament results, which took place in Monte Carlo, showed that Anna Ushenina became the owner of the silver medal in the women's category. She scored 10 points out of a possible 13 and shared the second-third places with Alexandra Kosteniuk from Switzerland. Ushenina took second place due to a better additional coefficient.
The tournament winner was Alexandra Maltseva from Poland, who collected 10.5 points. This award became the first medal for Anna Ushenina at the individual European Championship. Earlier she became the champion of the European Team Championship using regular chess in 2013, and also won silver in 2015 and two bronzes in 2009 and 2017.
Anna already has nine awards in international chess competitions. She won two gold medals at the European Team Championship in 2007 and 2011, received three silvers at the 2013 World Championship, the 2015 European Championship, and the 2022 Chess Olympiad, as well as two bronzes at the World and European Championships in 2013.
“We congratulate Anna and support Ukrainian players at the European Rapid Championship taking place this weekend in Monte Carlo!” the Ministry reported.
