Ukraine elected for the first time to the UNAIDS Coordinating Board.

The Ministry of Health reported that Ukraine has been included in the UNAIDS Coordinating Board for the period from 2026 to 2028. This is of great significance for Ukraine, as the country will be able to influence global policy on HIV/AIDS and ensure its national context is considered in decision-making.
UNAIDS is the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, established in 1996 to coordinate the global response to the HIV epidemic. It brings together the efforts of governments, international organizations, civil society, and people living with HIV.
Since the onset of Russian aggression, UNAIDS has supported the integration of HIV services into humanitarian aid. The organization has also facilitated cooperation between the government, the UN, and NGOs in combating stigma and enhancing HIV prevention efforts.
UNAIDS Global Goals for Ukraine
The UNAIDS global goals serve as a benchmark for Ukraine in overcoming the HIV epidemic and are reflected in the National Action Plan until 2030. One of the goals is '95-95-95'. This means that Ukraine aims to:
- 95% of people living with HIV know their HIV status
- 95% of those who know their status receive antiretroviral therapy
- 95% of people receiving antiretroviral therapy have an undetectable viral load (virus not detectable)
Joining the UNAIDS Coordinating Board will allow Ukraine to exchange experiences with other countries and promote the development of effective national systems for combating HIV/AIDS. Ukraine has already successfully created an effective system for HIV services based on public health principles. The system includes epidemiological surveillance, monitoring, and management of drug supplies, ensuring patients have continuous access to antiretroviral therapy.
Ukraine is ready to actively cooperate with other countries and international partners to overcome the HIV epidemic and improve the quality of life for people living with HIV.
