Transnistria has entered a gas Armageddon due to the cessation of transit through Ukraine.

Ukraine has stopped transporting gas from Russia
As of January 1, 2025, at 07:00, Ukraine has stopped transporting natural gas from Russia through its gas transportation system. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported this to ensure national security and informed international partners.
Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko stated that Europe has already abandoned Russian gas, and Ukraine has joined their Repower EU initiative. He called the cessation of Russian gas transit a 'historic event' and noted that this would lead to financial losses for Russia.
'We have stopped the transit of Russian gas, this is a historic event. Russia will lose markets and suffer financial losses. The European initiative Repower EU provides precisely for what Ukraine has done today,' Halushchenko said.
The gas transportation system of Ukraine continues to operate without the transit of Russian gas since January 1, and the Ministry of Energy emphasized that the infrastructure of the system was prepared for this stoppage and will reliably supply gas to Ukrainian consumers.
Mass gas disconnections have begun in Transnistria. The gas transportation company 'Tiraspoltransgaz-Transnistria' warned residents of the region about the gas disconnection until 12:00. Gas will only be available for cooking.
Local residents have been urged to close gas taps and not to restore gas supply independently. In addition, gas transportation tariffs in Ukraine will rise fourfold.
