Trump urged Erdogan to mediate in resolving the conflict in Ukraine
US President Donald Trump reached out to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asking him to act as a mediator in ending the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.
During a phone conversation, Trump and Erdogan discussed bilateral relations between the countries as well as regional and global issues. The Turkish President has already responded positively to Trump's proposal for mediation in the conflict.
'I just had a very nice and productive phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which covered many topics, including Russia's war against Ukraine, everything related to Syria, Gaza, and much more,' - Trump wrote.
There is also information in the media that Turkey may initiate a ceasefire process, which was started by Putin in May, with the aim of making it sustainable. Trump also mentioned a possible visit to Turkey and announced Erdogan's arrival in Washington for cooperation and efforts to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
'In any case, I look forward to the opportunity to work with President Erdogan to end the senseless but deadly war between Russia and Ukraine - right now,' - emphasized Trump.
Initially, Trump explained his position regarding a 30-day ceasefire, emphasizing the need for a quick resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.
