Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Italy. This is reported by 'Glavkom'.
In the 1/8 finals match, Svitolina played against the 29th-seeded American Danielle Collins.
Svitolina and Collins had previously played against each other three times in hard court tournaments. In March, the Ukrainian managed to win against the American for the first Time in the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami.
In the first set, the tennis players exchanged breaks at the start, but then Svitolina took the initiative into her own hands. Converting her second break point opportunity, Elina took the lead and maintained her advantage until the end of the set - 6:4.
The second set started with a powerful surge from the Ukrainian - she won five games in a row. After that, Collins made a break and won one game, but Svitolina took the game on her own serve and won the set - 6:2.
The match lasted 1 hour and 27 minutes.
In the quarterfinals, Elina Svitolina will play against the 42nd-ranked American Peyton Stearns, who today defeated the Japanese Naomi Osaka.
