The launch of the high-speed railway connection from Berlin to Warsaw and its extension to Kyiv is planned for the coming decades
In 2030, the high-speed railway connection from Berlin to Warsaw is planned to be launched, and by 2040 - to Kyiv. This was reported by Apostolos Tzizikostas, who is undergoing the approval process for the position of European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism.
"I will make sure that this is a priority task so that this network develops... I will work very closely with Germany, Poland, and Ukraine," he said at a hearing in the Transport and Tourism Committee.
According to Tsitsikostas, there are problems with increasing the speed of railway traffic on the Ukrainian side, but such issues also exist in some eastern EU countries.
"We have to work a lot for this, it's very expensive, but we have to do it," stressed the future European Commissioner.
Tsitsikostas also announced plans to connect EU capitals and major cities with high-speed rail, including night trains. He also pledged to introduce a unified digital option for booking and ticket sales for rail transport.
