Stoltenberg explained what concessions Ukraine may make for security guarantees.


Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed the opinion that Ukraine may make temporary territorial concessions to ensure peace. He suggests that the Ukrainian government should receive security guarantees in exchange for such concessions. One of the possible guarantees could be NATO membership. However, Stoltenberg noted that there are other ways to arm and support Ukrainians.
Stoltenberg stressed that even if the ceasefire line leads to Russia maintaining control over occupied territory, it does not mean that Ukraine should forever abandon it.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky opposes territorial concessions to Russia, but Stoltenberg believes such a position is unrealistic given the complex military situation in the country.
Stoltenberg acknowledges the necessity of establishing a ceasefire line that would include all territories, including occupied ones. However, he notes that implementing such a solution in practice may be impractical in the near future.
President Zelensky proposed to transfer the territories controlled by Ukraine to NATO to halt hostilities and then return them through diplomatic negotiations.
