What Prevents the Restart of the Zaporizhzhia NPP: Details from the Regulator.

Experts from across the country unanimously supported the necessity of keeping the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in a 'cold shutdown' mode. The head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate, Oleg Korikov, emphasized that the safety of the plant requires inspection and correction of violations that arose due to the occupation. Experts also expressed support for this approach, noting that the current risks associated with the restart are very high.
We currently do not see the prerequisites, we do not see anyone addressing these safety deficiencies. The IAEA and industry experts agree with us.
This decision is important given the need to synchronize the Ukrainian energy system with the European one, as reconnecting the plant could be dangerous and require a complete shutdown from the grid. Therefore, safety must come first when making decisions about the future of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
Conclusion
Experts agreed that extending the 'cold shutdown' of the Zaporizhzhia NPP is important given the risks of restarting. This step is considered significant, and the safety of the population and the environment must come first.
