Opposition Forces Launch Offensive on Aleppo

Opposition forces in Syria have launched an offensive on Aleppo, the second largest city in the country. Rebels from the group 'Hayat Tahrir al-Sham' have already appeared on the streets of the city, as evidenced by video footage published by the monitoring account Status 6 on social media platform X.

According to Turkey's Anadolu Agency, in three days of the offensive, the rebels captured over 50 settlements in northwestern Syria. The British monitoring organization Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reports 218 militants killed from both sides and 20 civilian casualties.

The total area of captured territory in Idlib and Aleppo provinces is approximately 400 square kilometers. The rebels also control the strategically important M5 highway, which connects Aleppo to Damascus.

According to CNN and AP, citing sources in Turkish security agencies, the offensive was a response to an attack by Syrian forces on the city of Idlib, where more than 30 civilians were killed. A 'limited operation' was initially planned, but after the retreat of the Syrian army, the offensive continued.
