There are cases of suicide among North Korean military due to fear for their families - White House.

North Korean soldiers commit suicide to avoid capture
American specialists received information about suicides among North Korean soldiers participating in combat operations on the side of Russia. They took their own lives because they fear being captured. This was stated by White House National Security communications advisor John Kirby.
According to him, during the attacks in the Kursk region, in which North Korean forces are participating, the losses are substantial. Just last week, their number amounted to 1000 soldiers.
According to Kirby, the Russian and North Korean military leadership treats KDR soldiers as expendable material.
'We have reports that North Korean soldiers committed suicide instead of surrendering to Ukrainian forces, likely due to fear of revenge on their families in North Korea if they were captured,' the White House advisor stated.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also stated that the North Koreans currently in Kursk are destroying their fellow villagers to prevent them from being captured.
Ukrainian forces also detained an injured soldier from North Korea in the Kursk region. During the successful completion of the mission, a mercenary from Korea and an armored vehicle with anti-cumulative protection were captured.
Subsequently, South Korean intelligence reported that the first of the captured KDR soldiers died from injuries sustained during the fighting.
According to South Korean officials, about 11 thousand North Korean military personnel have already been sent to Russia. Some of them were dispatched to the Kursk region after training to participate in battles against the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It should be noted that just in the last week, North Korean troops have suffered significant losses, with the number of dead and wounded amounting to a thousand fighters.
