South Korea is creating a new domestic missile system
South Korea has begun developing a new domestic missile system to intercept targets at altitudes. This was reported by the state procurement agency.
At a meeting held at the Defense Acquisition Program Administration in Daejeon, the development of the L-SAM II system (long-range anti-missile system) was discussed. According to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, L-SAM will expand the missile defense zone three to four times compared to the old L-SAM system.
The development of the new L-SAM system is planned to be completed by 2028. The project cost is 567.7 billion won (388 million USD).
The L-SAM system is the foundation of the country's multi-layer missile shield, known as the Korea Air and Missile Defense. It forms the basis of the country's military strategy, also including the Kill Chain preventive strike platform and the Korea's massive punishment and retaliation system.
The development of the first block of the L-SAM system has already been completed, and this year the start of serial production is planned.
