The Saeima of Latvia on March 27 adopted amendments to the police law that grant law enforcement the right to shoot down drones if they pose a threat. This was reported by the Latvian broadcaster LSM.

76 deputies voted for these amendments, while 6 voted against. The law comes into effect immediately after its adoption.

The police will be able to stop drones in the air, on the ground, or in water using special means if they threaten the life and health of people, the safety of protected objects, or critical infrastructure. It is also permitted to use special means if the drones were launched illegally or there is suspicion of a crime.

After the amendments, the police have been granted the right to use explosives in certain cases. Previously, this right was only available to border guards or military personnel, while the police were limited to observation.

It was also reported that the Romanian Senate passed a law allowing the Romanian army to shoot down illegal drones that violate the country's airspace. According to this law, drones can be neutralized or destroyed if their movement is not controlled within Romania or NATO.

The Constitutional Court of Romania will consider a complaint against this law filed by a group of far-right parties.

Earlier, the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ambassador to Britain Valeriy Zaluzhny called on Romania to shoot down Russian drones that penetrate its territory during attacks on Ukraine.
