Pope Francis will be discharged from the hospital today.

Pope Francis, who was hospitalized with bilateral pneumonia over a month ago, will be released from the hospital today, March 23. The chief doctor of the team that cared for Francis, Sergio Alfieri, says that the Pope will still need to rest at the Vatican. The doctor added that the Pope has been prescribed two months of peace and advised to refrain from meetings with large groups of people and activities that require special effort.
During his battle with the illness, the pontiff experienced four acute episodes, which were referred to as 'respiratory crises' in the Vatican. Two of them were critical and threatened the Pope's life.
The Pope, who has gained weight in recent years due to knee and back pain and used a wheelchair, has now lost weight. However, Alfieri notes that he had a bit of extra weight in reserve, so this is not a problem.
After the illness and treatment, Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez assured that the physical condition of the pontiff would remain the same as before hospitalization. However, due to oxygen therapy, the Pope is forced to relearn how to speak.
In the only recording of Francis's voice published by the Vatican, it is evident that he struggles to speak, lacks air, and the words sound unclear.
The press service of the Holy See reported that the condition of Pope Francis, who has been in the hospital since February 14, remains stable.
