New Basic Training Program: What Has Changed in the Training of Ukrainian Soldiers.


The Ministry of Defense Prepares Mobilization Personnel for the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The Ministry of Defense informs that the fifth edition of the basic military training program (BMT) is being implemented in training centers for mobilization personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with an emphasis on psychological resilience.
In the new program, the total duration of training remains unchanged - 1.5 months, of which 41 days are allocated for classes, 6 days for rest, and 1 day for administrative matters. The total volume of training consists of 372 training hours.
The improvement of the program is led by the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Colonel Oleg Apostol.
From November 1, 2024, the BMT will last for 1.5 months. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has developed the corresponding training program.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine approved the program, which will come into effect on February 10, 2025.
Update of the BMT Program
Among the key innovations of the updated BMT program:
- introduction of the so-called 'zero day'/ 'reset day'
- strengthening psychological training
- study of the software 'Kropyva'
- expanded first aid course
- added 'marching' training to build endurance of servicemen
The training program includes improved shooting exercises with personal weapons at short distances and on speed, for which additional ammunition is allocated.
The exercises have been improved by representatives of combat units.
The program also includes training in psychological resilience of servicemen through viewing virtual reality films 'First Fight'.
Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Serhiy Melnyk emphasized that the new BMT program is the result of analyzing the experience of units and focuses on practical skills, psychological resilience, and other necessary functions on the modern battlefield.
Structure of the Training Program
The program consists of four blocks:
- introductory course - 8 hours
- individual training course - 107 hours
- training actions in a unit - 209 hours
- comprehensive tactical exercise - 48 hours
Servicemen who successfully complete the training receive a certificate and class qualification for WOS-100 'shooter'.
