They Can Be in Every Wallet: Ukrainians Warned About 'Strange' 200 and 500 Hryvnias.

Ukrainians have been warned about 'strange' banknotes and were told how to distinguish counterfeit money from genuine ones.
The press service of the National Bank reported that counterfeit Ukrainian hryvnias are circulating in Ukraine, particularly banknotes of 200 and 500 hryvnias. According to statistics, most of the seized counterfeit money consists of 500 hryvnia banknotes (over 75%), 200 hryvnia banknotes account for about 20%, while lower denomination banknotes make up only 4% of the total number of counterfeits. Although this issue exists, it does not threaten the stability of the country's economy.
The National Bank emphasized that counterfeits are mainly forged from old banknotes, as new banknotes introduced since 2016 have an improved security system and design. They are equipped with optically variable security features, making counterfeiting difficult for fraudsters. Ordinary people can easily determine the authenticity of banknotes by the presence of security elements.
If you suspect a counterfeit banknote, the National Bank advises you to contact any bank to verify its authenticity. If the counterfeit is confirmed, law enforcement agencies will be informed and an investigation will be launched. However, reimbursement for the value of counterfeit banknotes is not provided.
The National Bank monitors and does everything possible to prevent counterfeiters from forging new banknotes. Although the distribution of counterfeit money poses a threat, this issue is under control.
As a reminder, we previously discussed the main signs of counterfeit 100-dollar banknotes.
