Metro for 37, and trams for 26 hryvnias: Will the fare increase in Kyiv and when?.

The Director of the Transport Infrastructure Department of the Kyiv City State Administration, Ruslan Kandibor, stated that the cost of public transport in Kyiv needs to be raised. Currently, it is 8 hryvnias, and when purchasing 50 trips, it is 6.50 hryvnias per trip. However, the actual cost of transportation is 30 hryvnias, but no increase in prices is planned for now.
Kyiv residents have long faced problems with public transport. The schedule is incomplete, and the metro suffers from a shortage of carriages. Passengers also complain about uncomfortable conditions.
Officials state that the current tariffs cover only a quarter of transportation costs. They consider raising tariffs to 30 hryvnias as a probe or intimidation.
“The city spends money on road repairs, while transportation does not receive enough attention. No one works on the development of public transport, they only talk about raising tariffs,” said transport expert Oleksandr Grechko.
The expert emphasized that raising tariffs to 30 hryvnias will lead to a loss of affluent passengers. He also noted that a balance between cost and quality of services needs to be ensured.
The Kyiv City State Administration states that the issue of increasing tariffs is not being considered. The cost of transportation in the metro is 36.90 hryvnias, while in electric transport it is 26.22 hryvnias.
