Petition to the President of Ukraine demanding to veto the draft law on the protection of the rights of bona fide purchasers has gained support

The petition calling on President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to veto draft law No. 12089 on strengthening the protection of the rights of bona fide purchasers has reached the necessary number of votes. This was reported by 'Glavkom'.

Currently, the petition has been supported by over 25 thousand people. The initiator of the appeal is the former mayor of Hlukhiv, businessman Mykola Tereshchenko.

It should be noted that on February 20, the legal committee of the Verkhovna Rada supported draft No. 12089 for a second reading. The draft law stipulates that claims against persons who appropriated a plot of forest or along the coast will be nullified if 10 years have passed since the appropriation and it has entered private hands. This means that if the draft is adopted by the parliament and signed by the president, the current owners will become the managers of such properties that were obtained illegally.

If the 10-year period has not yet expired, then before applying to the court for the protection of property, it is necessary to pay into the deposit an amount corresponding to the value of that property that the community or state wants to return.

Thus, those who appropriated forests or coastlines will remain with the acquired property, which could formally be nullified, or with funds from the budget. In such a situation, the individual wins, while the state becomes an opportunist.

On March 12, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the draft law in the second reading and as a whole.
